The duty

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 makes annual fire damper testing the responsible person's legal duty. BS 9999 sets out exactly how. Most buildings haven't tested theirs in years — they're often painted over, jammed, or missing access entirely.
When the FRA next lands, you want a dated certificate per damper, not a panic.

We survey duct routes, log every damper with location, type, fusible link rating and access route.

Drop test
Each damper manually released, fall observed for full closure, reset and confirmed operational.

Clean
Linkages cleaned, springs inspected, blades dust-cleared. Expired fusible links replaced on the spot.

Certify
BS 9999 certificate per damper. Schematic, photo log and asset register — to your fire risk assessor.
